  • Q: What is RoHS?

    ROHS was a directive in the European Union concerning the reduction of 6 substances used in electronic components: lead, cadmium, mercury, chrome 6, polybrominated biphenyls, and polybrominated diphenyl ethers. The latter 2 are fire retardants used in plastics and have been claimed to be causes for acne, abdominal pain and assorted other issues . Lead and mercury have negative effects on the nervous system and a lot of other organs. Cadmium and chrome 6 have been tied to cancer and few other ailments.

  • Q: Is China Involved with the RoHS requirements?

    A: China also has a version of RoHS that has labeling requirements going into effect 1 Mar. 07. Same substances but broader electronic categories are included.

  • Q: When did RoHS come into force?

    A: The RoHS Directive and the UK RoHS regulations came into force on 1 July 2006.

  • Q: Who is Enforcing RoHS?

    The National Weights and Measures Laboratory (NWML) has been awarded the contract to set up the UK's national RoHS enforcement body. We are now delivering RoHS enforcement since the regulations were fully implemented on the 1st July 2006.
