2009-12-02 - His people-skills and dedication are the basics of service
When Tim started his first job at ABB, then Babcock and Wilcox, he reported to his assembly line station on the second floor of the Worden Road factory building in Wickliffe, Ohio. He spent his first 3 years assembling positioners and transmitters for instrumentation, and modules for control systems.
Back then, a portion of the first floor in the factory building included large painting bays, where control system cabinets were painted, prior to assembly. The cabinets were hung and guided by overhead conveyors to the paint bays. The painting employees were garbed in protective clothing and masks; and handled large spray guns, loaded with paint. At one point, Tim helped hook the cabinets on the conveyors, in the manufacturing process.
“When I came to work in 1974, I worked for Babcock and Wilcox. Since then, I have worked for Bailey Meter Company, Bailey Controls, Hartmann and Braun, Elsag Bailey, and now ABB – all while parking in the same lot,” Tim mused.
His exemplary work ethic was recognized by supervisor, Floretta Blair, who promoted him to a salaried position in inventory control. There, he tracked required assembly components, including items sourced from other Bailey factories, and made sure they were on-hand when needed.
In 1995, He joined Jim Bender and others and moved to the Administration Building on Euclid Avenue, where he joined the Renewal Parts Distribution Center (RDPC). Here he began his customer service role. Initially responsible for instrumentation, then Net 90 to INFI90 control systems parts and then on to his current role; stationed in the North America Customer Service Center, supporting requests for today's parts, products and repair services.
“What I enjoy most, working here, is helping customers; satisfying the many requests of our customers. I can honestly say I look forward to work everyday at ABB, because of the people I work with and the variety of challenges I help to resolve daily,” he said.
Tim always has, and still completes each customer call with a cheerful, “My pleasure.”
Thank you, Tim, for your years of service. It is our pleasure and benefit to have you on our service team!
