Conference - TOC Americas Embraces Recovery
How deep and how long will the recession be?

The conference provided delegates with a status report on global economic and maritime trade conditions, with detailed insight into the specific impact for North and Latin American logistics, liner shipping and regional port markets. Speakers discussed the impact of current events for future expansion and investment, including fallout from shifting sourcing patterns and revised carrier deployment strategies.

Despite current economical situation many ports across the Americas still have active expansion and modernization plans. When growth resumes, where, and at what level, will all have significant bearing on operations strategy and technology investment at ports and terminals. For now, falling port cargo volumes have prompted heightened focus on the cost efficiency of terminal operations. But the need to deliver cleaner ports also remains: indeed, sustainability could become a critical factor in securing future funds for expansion.

Key business panels provided information about following topics:
  • the latest market intelligence, macro economic and trade indicators
  • strategies for liner shipping on north-south and east-west Americas trades, including the effect of Panama Canal expansion
  • the state of the market in port infrastructure finance
  • the impact of recent events on marine terminal operators’ appetite for investment and development in Latin America and the Caribbean

For 2010, TOC Americas will move to Brazil. The event will take place November 9-11 2010 at Sheraton Rio Hotel & Resort, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
