2010-07-12 - Week-long series of reminders reach DM employees; Safety #1 Priority
From New Berlin, WI, Campus, July 12, 2010 . . . All employees across the Discrete Automation & Motion division in North America took a literal break from work on Monday, July 12, to be reminded that safety is our behavior: WHAT we choose individually, and as an organization, to do when working with, and around, electricity.
"Time-out for Safety - YOUR LIFE IS Worth It" includes a s10-minute briefing from senior managers, a six-minute audio in which North American DM division manager Rick Hepperla profiles how and why accidents ARE preventable; and animations in employees' mailboxes, to raise awareness even further.
The animations, Monday – Friday, include: “Seven Steps to Electrical Safety”; “Safe Use of Cell Phones”; “Lockout Tagout/LOTO Procedures”; “Avoiding Slips, Trips and Falls,” and: “The Essentials of Good Housekeeping in Work Areas – to Avoid Injuries.”
Safety stickers also are being printed, to attach to the reverse side of each employee’s ID/Key Card.
“Each and every one of us must agree that injuries are unacceptable!” Hepperla noted in the audio message to employees. “Ultimately, safety is behavior – both individual behaviors, as well as organizational behaviors. We have to re-focus our efforts on assuring that each of us and our colleagues are working safely at all times – and all places – at our plants, our offices, our customers’ sites, on the road, and at home.”
Each of the animations regarding safety is followed by a single-question quiz, so that employees are challenged to remain engaged with the messages.
