ABB Transformer Days event to tackle today’s electric power challenges, tomorrow’s business opportunities

2014-08-07 - ABB to host three-day program, Sept. 23-25 in St. Louis, consisting of utility-focused panel discussions and customer-selected seminars, all focusing on major transformer and power industry trends and technologies.

The Transformer Days event will be hosted by ABB onsite at the Hilton St. Louis at the Ballpark hotel in downtown St. Louis on September 23-25, 2014. ABB Transformer Days seeks to explore significant issues in both today’s and tomorrow’s electric utility business environment.

On September 23 and 24, Transformer Days will offer three hard-hitting, industry-led panel discussions with customer participation on today’s greatest challenges, as well as what the electric power industry will look like in the coming years. Industry leaders will join these interactive panel discussions to relate their experiences in mitigating risks and taking advantage of new business opportunities around issues crucial to the power industry. The three panel discussions will be focused around:

  • Future impact of renewable and distributed generation on utilities
  • Asset Management on a dime
  • Addressing the need for physical and cyber transformer security
The event will also provide an opportunity for attendees to select from among 16 wide-ranging, in-depth technical seminars that are most important for their businesses. Topics include:
  • DOE efficiency standards for distribution transformers in 2016
  • The impact of geomagnetic or solar-storm disturbances on transformers in 2016
  • Power transformer design and logistic considerations for quick response to natural disasters
  • Universal spare transformers using shell technology
On the final day, September 25, attendees will also have an opportunity to take a half-day tour of the St. Louis medium power transformer plant, or take a chartered bus two hours down I-70 to ABB’s Jefferson City, Missouri, liquid distribution transformer plant as part of the event. There will also be an exhibition of ABB Transformer products and services throughout the event where attendees can confer with ABB experts.

“As the world’s leading maker of transmission and distribution transformers, we have listened intently and learned a great deal about what technical issues and industry trends matter most to our customers,” said Rich Bocim, manager of Commercial Operations, ABB Transformers, North America. “As a result, ABB is pleased to offer this three-day Transformer Days event to utilities and stakeholders in the electric power industry and to anyone interested in discussing the future role of transformers on the American power grid and how we can work together to overcome today’s greatest challenges. We hope you can join us.”
