2009-11-02 - The sixth and final podcast in the six-part series of Smart Grid-related podcasts from the Transmission & Distribution World (T&D World) Magazine website.
Transmission & Distribution World is wrapping up an ongoing, six-part podcast series on their website that started in August. This series, sponsored by ABB, features a discussion around the definition of a 'Smarter Grid' given by ABB executives and managers directly involved in Smart Grid activity.
The sixth podcast features Greg Scheu, Head of ABB's Power Products division in North America, and is entitled: "Building a Smarter Grid: Managing Assets to Improve Utility Decision Making."
Utilities are looking for ways to extract more value from existing grid infrastructure. Greg talks with T&D World Editorial Director Rick Bush about how utilities can extract more value from existing grid infrastructure by managing the overall assets of the T&D operation. The podcast examines the information required to operate/maintain those assets and looks at the technology behind ‘intelligent sensing,’ both on bulk power systems and on individual devices. Related to this is the important but sometimes overlooked aspect of integrated Services for the Smart Grid, which can greatly impact the bottom line.
