Singapore Republic Polytechnic is one of the leading higher learning institutions in Singapore. As part of the green initiative, the campus was fitted with a 30 kW photovoltaic system for solar energy lighting and ABB AC500 PLC was chosen to control the monitoring station.
The AC500 solar monitoring station collects and interprets all data received from the DC/AC inverters through digital and analogue modules where it generates energy reports by measuring temperature, current power, voltage and ampere. The control system ensures precise real-time monitoring of solar radiance as well as energy production, yield and consumption.
The Automation Solution
ABB's scope of supplies included:
- one central unit PM571 AC500 PLC
- Analogue I/O modules AI523
- Digital I/O modules DC532
- ABB MCBs
- Energy measuring instrumentation.
The ABB Products
The scalability and modular concept of AC500 PLC makes any standalone configuration easy where it can perform a huge range of tasks. The programmable system can also be used remotely to perform decentralized automation controls.
The flexibility of S500 input / output modules AI 523 and DC532 offer efficient and economical solutions with extensive diagnostic features and future expandability options which make it adaptable to optimize the changing requirements whenever necessary.
The Benefit for the Customer
The monitoring system provides the customer with an extensive overview of all important data of the solar plant where the data can be used to improve the efficiency of the power generation. The charts and graphic representation provides real time analysis was created using the visualization tool which is part of the AC500 Control Builder Programming Software.
ABB automation solution speaks for itself: superb scalability and high performance built with flexibility and ease of programming. Strong software application and excellent after sales support bundled with extensive product portfolio made ABB the preferred power and automation partner.
