A company in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany has specialized in the manufacture of tailor-made polystyrene cutting machinery. A fully automated four-sided milling machine cuts polystyrene panels to size. At the push of a button, the machine can be adapted to the various different formats. Panels sizes up to 2m width and 40cm height can be processed. A synchronous production speed is possible because the processing speed can also be adjusted individually.
The ABB Products
The centerpiece of the milling machine is a scalable ABB control device from the AC500 PLC series. Various communication modules have been used to adapt it to the specific requirements of the plant. A CP400 touch panel allows for easy operation. The operating information can be obtained from the easy-to-read graphic display.
The scalability and the modular platform concept of the AC500 PLC enables the configuration of individual and multiple automation solutions. This automation system can therefore be used as central control element or decentrally enlarged to fulfill complex automation tasks.
